2010-2011 Squaw season pass prices announced

If you're wondering if Squaw will offer great deals for next season like they did for their 60th anniversary, the wait is over. A "Silver Pass" will set you back $499 (up from $469), but it's still a pretty killer deal.

Phenomenal 2009-2010 season pass options for Squaw

For 2008-2009, Squaw's season pass would have set you back $1,449. For 2009-2010, they're running an epic 60th anniversary promotion on season passes. In addition to the Platinum full-pass option, they're offering Bronze, Silver and Gold passes.

The $369 Bronze level has some significant limitations and blackout dates, but the $469 Silver level looks pretty reasonable. At $79 per day, this pass pays for itself in 6 days.

Looks like next year might be a Squaw Valley ski season....

Alpine Meadows discounts at Costco

Costco is selling 2-packs of Alpine tickets for $99.99, which saves you $14 per day compared to their regular prices. These are even cheaper than what you get with the Alpine Club.

I'm not sure if all Costco locations have this deal, so call ahead. The Mountain View Costco did still have tickets this afternoon.

C2K, powered by Hot Chillys!

If you don't know Hot Chillys, they make all kinds of great base layer clothing, and lots of us in the cabin wear their gear. When Hot Chillys heard what we've got going on with C2K, they decided to send us an awesome care package of goodies, complete with beer koozies, stickers, and enough Atomic Fireballs to keep us warm on the coldest days on the slopes!

Thanks Hot Chillys!

Check out their website. I especially like their recipes section. C2K feast anyone? You can find Hot Chillys gear around the Bay Area at stores like REI and Sports Basement.

Hitting the slopes in South America

My sister Sarah has been living in Santiago, Chile for almost two years, and we finally worked out a plan for a visit. I traveled down there with Beck, one of my other sisters. (My last sister Kimi already started Fall semester at NYU, so she couldn't come.)

It was a long haul to get down there, and the day we arrived, we started a 14 hour bus trip from Santiago to Bariloche, Argentina. Bariloche was well worth the trip. The geography around town reminded me a little of Tahoe...huge crystal clear lake ringed by snow-capped mountains. Town was friendly and fun, and home to countless chocolate shops we discovered. The skiing was good too. Definitely spring conditions down there, and it felt a little strange to be above the tree line the whole time.

After five days in Bariloche, we returned to Santiago for five more days. We explored the city a bit, and skied another day at one of the local mountains. Side-trips to Valparaiso and Puerto Varas were a fun way to see a little more of the country.

Here's a slideshow of pics from our trip!
